We are developing sophisticated terminal medical care in the hospice that was approved as the first to be managed by a university hospital. The rehabilitation center was built in December 2000 and now is situated as the key player in Mie prefecture. Post-acute stroke patients are the main candidates for our rehabilitation program. We also provide a sanatorium-like ward, a day-care service and an in-home care support center.
Evidence-based medicine should be stressed in clinical situations. For example, the 7-day-without-holiday intensive rehabilitation program, the Full-time Integrated Treatment (FIT) program, that is applied in Nanakuri Sanatorium has been shown to result in improved outcomes compared with conventional programs, and we have presented our results worldwide.
