The mission of this center is to develop
and deliver innovative therapeutics
that offers hope to patients with intractable diseases.
Masahide Takahashi, Director, International Center for Cell and Gene Therapy
International Center for Cell and Gene Therapy was established in May 2019 for development of new therapeutics for intractable diseases such as cancer, neurotrauma and infectious disease. Regenerative medicine is an expanding field for treating injured tissues and organs using various cells of the patient or others that have been processed by culturing and gene transfer. It is the mission of this center to develop and deliver innovative treatments that offer hope to patients with intractable diseases for which no effective treatments are available. We aim to develop new therapeutics for tissue repair/regeneration by separating and culturing somatic stem cells that are present in a small number in the body and can differentiate into various cells, We are also developing a new cancer immunotherapy called CAR-T cell therapy. We will continue to contribute to the development of regenerative medicine in Japan.
To that end, we will actively promote joint research with universities and companies in Japan and overseas, and aim to provide optimal regenerative cell therapy to patients suffering from intractable diseases.
