Students can learn pharmacological science necessary for medical therapy, which are pharmacological effect, mechanisms of action, safety, and basic strategy of optimization for individual patients. Students can experience pharmacological effects of principal substances through exercise. They should learn animal ethics, and also biomedical study based on World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki.

Our present projects are;
1, Study on vascular endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis. We study molecular mechanisms and pathogenesis of atherosclerosis by using primary culture of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). We are interested in the regulation of adhesion molecules by free radicals and tetrahydrobiopyein (BH4, an essential cofactor for nitric oxide synthases, tyrosine hydroxylase, tryptophan hydroxylase, and phenylalanine hydroxylase ). 2, Study on mechanisms of platelet activation by super oxides and other factors. We are trying to develop new treatment for atherosclerosis and inflammatory disease by modification of platelet function. 3, Study on development of catecholaminergic neurons and neurological disease. We established BH4 partial deficient mice, and revealed that amount of TH protein in the dopaminergic nerve terminals are strictly regulated by intracellular BH4. |
