基礎と臨床をつなぎ、新興再興感染症に備える Addressing emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases through translational research

感染症研究センターは細菌やウイルスによる新興・再興感染症の新たな診断法、治療法の開発拠点として2021年10月に創設されました。新型コロナウイルス感染症のパンデミックにより感染症が医療や社会に及ぼす影響の大きさがあらためて認識されました。人流の活発化、気候変動などの要因から今後も新たな感染症が流行することが想定されます。さらに、高度化した現代の医療を安全に行うには既存の様々な感染症を適切に制御できることも必須です。本センターでは、世界的に大きな課題となっている薬剤耐性菌やウイルスによる急性・慢性感染症などを念頭に、分子疫学、病態解明や創薬を目指す基礎研究から治療法開発のための臨床研究までを行なっていきます。本学および病院群の強みを活かし、また国内外の大学や医療機関とも連携しながらフェーズ横断的な感染症研究に取り組み、医療と公衆衛生に寄与することを目指します。

The Infectious Disease Research Center was established in October 2021 as a consortium for developing new diagnostic and therapeutic methods for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases caused by bacteria and viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has made us aware of the great impact infectious diseases have on the society. With factors favoring pathogens such as international travel and climate changes, new infectious diseases are expected to continue to appear and spread. Furthermore, prevention and control of infections both in the community and health care settings is essential to ensure that we can safely deliver modern medical care. At this center, we conduct basic research aimed at molecular epidemiology, elucidation of pathophysiology, and drug discovery, as well as clinical research to development new treatments, with a focus on acute and chronic infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria and viruses. We leverage our extensive hospital system and collaboration with universities and medical institutions both within and outside Japan to accelerate bench-to-bedside research.
