Graduate Student's Interview

Mr. Zhao Xiaofei
(2020 Master's Program Admission)

  • Could you please Introduce yourself?
Hi, everyone. My name is Zhao Xiaofei, from Shanghai, China. I am a second-year master’s student at Fujita Health University School of Medicine. I have to say this is a worthy and unforgettable experience in my life. I am so proud of being a part of Fujita Health University (FHU).
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you were forced to stay in China before you came to Japan. Were you worried?
This year was a very difficult one for everyone, especially for students abroad. In the beginning of the first semester (starting April 1, 2020), I was really anxious because I couldn’t enter Japan, so I couldn’t join courses with other students. However, I was wrong. The FHU staff sent me all the information. My supervisor sent me so many teaching materials including a bibliography, PDF documents, a professional book, and so on. He kindly held web-based one-on-one meetings frequently. So I didn't miss anything while I stayed in China.

I got to Japan on December 1, 2020. However, I had to stay in a hotel for a two-week quarantine. During this period, my supervisor again held an online course and allowed me to use a professional algorithm through the web. I think it is a really wonderful environment that a graduate student can freely use such programs. And also, FHU staff from the Center for International Relations chatted with me online every day. So I never ever felt bored, lonely, or distressed during the quarantine period. Actually, I enjoyed it.
  • What has been happening since you came to FHU?
Now, I have studied on campus for a few months.

FHU provides dorm rooms for international students. I have to say this rental system is a really good one for us. My room is very fantastic. It’s fully furnished from furniture to appliances, which makes living easy and comfortable for me. Moreover, FHU provides free bicycles for international students. There are a variety of supermarkets around. Only a 10-minute ride takes me there.

On my days off, I often visit downtown Nagoya, which is just a little over an hour away from FHU by public transport for eating, shopping, and visiting local spots such as Sakae, Osu, Nagoya Castle, and so on. After all, enjoying life is good for my intense studies in Japan.
  • Could you please tell us about your future plans?
Actually, I am a nuclear medicine technologist at Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, National Children’s Medical Center in China. I took a two-year absence and came to Japan. So after finishing the master’s course, I will go back to China and resume my job.

In China, I want to be a bridge between FHU Hospital and my hospital for medical work experience exchange, education exchange, research cooperation, and so on.
Thank you very much for talking with me today.
