Doctoral Course in Medicine

The Graduate School of Medicine comprises the following two disciplines: basic medicine and clinical medicine. The basic medicine discipline comprises morphology, function studies, healthcare, and molecular medicine. The clinical medicine discipline comprises internal medicine and surgery. The basic medicine discipline encourages cutting-edge basic research in students’ areas of specialty. The clinical medicine discipline not only encourages the development of medical knowledge in expert areas and the advancement of medical technologies but also proactively implements measures to improve treatment efficacy through multidisciplinary treatment methods that span multiple fields. The Graduate School of Medicine focuses on basic and creative research in the field of medicine and clinical medical research for facilitating highly-advanced medicine. Moreover, the Graduate School of Medicine aims to nurture talent who will demonstrate leadership as researchers and teachers with a profound sense of humanity and creativeness.

Basic Medicine


The main research themes in the field of morphology are the analysis of signal transmission, formation of hormone secretion functions, and control mechanisms; analysis of the morphological formation of the central nerve system and information transmission mechanisms; elucidation of the pathology for cancer and infectious diseases through histochemical methods; elucidation of the mechanism of antigen expression by immune cells and molecular mechanisms in metabolic disorders; and analysis of the molecular mechanisms of biological defense against viral, malarial, and other infections.

Function Studies

The field of function studies conducts life science-based research focusing on the elucidation of biological functions as well as basic medical research closely related to the development of medicine and healthcare. The field of function studies also proactively nurtures talent who can also work in the field of clinical medicine as well as provides training for researchers and teachers who will pursue their career in the area of basic medicine.


The field of healthcare is committed to providing postgraduate education based on research excellence, with its main research themes including health statistics, epidemiology of various diseases, elucidation of the factors affecting fatigue and stress in the industry, epidemiology of mental health, genetic and epidemiological analysis of enterotoxigenic E. coli, toxicological mechanism of cytotoxin, pathology of sudden death, and toxicological mechanism of abused drugs.

Molecular Medicine

The field of molecular medicine elucidates the causes of various diseases and implements basic educational research that leads to the development of preventive and treatment methods through the use of molecular biological and cytobiological methods while providing postgraduate education with a view toward research leading to the advancement of medical treatment through active research collaboration with the field of clinical medicine.

Clinical Medicine

Internal Medicine

The field of internal medicine is committed to nurturing clinical physicians with a research-oriented mindset and up-to-date skills by adopting new approaches while incorporating traditions from existing classes. The scope for research includes common diseases from which many people are, or will be, suffering, and research is expected to be applied to current and future clinical settings.


The field of surgery is committed to nurturing researchers with broad clinical skills that allow them to address various needs in the modern society as well as developing highly-skilled medical professionals. This field aims to nurture talent who can widely contribute to the community by encouraging students to obtain certificates and accreditations for general and specialist areas from various academic organizations.

It also continues to nurture researchers, teachers, and highly-skilled professionals who will serve as leaders in the future through the development of advanced research skills required for independently conducting research projects in a specialist area and sound academic knowledge and advanced clinical skills, which form the basis of such research skills.

Diploma Policies

Fujita Health University Graduate School of Medicine confers degrees upon students who, predominantly during a four-year period, earn a specified number of credits, pass thesis defense as well as specified examinations, and demonstrate that they have acquired sufficient experience, skills, ability, and ethics as described below.

3. Concrete knowledge of life sciences in medical fields.
4. Concrete understanding of humanism and professional ethics

Curriculum Policies

Based on the Curriculum Policies described below, Fujita Health University Graduate School of Medicine designs an appropriate curriculum for graduate courses.

1. Students attend desired laboratories to learn professional experience and research skills. Tutors with Ph.D. conduct personalized education through lectures and training courses.
2. Besides specialized education, comprehensive and/or cutting edge courses are developed. The university allows students to attend varied courses on their own initiative.
3. For foreign students or those Japanese students who wish to study overseas in the future, some courses are held in English on demand.
4. The university provides ethics education in each department as well as in interdisciplinary classes.
