Pioneering the Future of Cancer Treatment through BNCT Research
The Fujita Health University BNCT Research Center was established as a dedicated research hub to advance Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT), a next-generation cancer treatment, through every stage of development—from basic research to clinical application.
BNCT is a highly interdisciplinary treatment modality that integrates expertise in drug development, diagnostic imaging, radiation oncology, medical physics, and radiation safety. By bringing together specialists across these fields, the Center seeks to overcome the scientific and technical challenges facing BNCT and expand its potential as a treatment option for a broader range of patients with cancer.
Fujita Health University is currently developing a dedicated BNCT treatment facility, with insurance-covered clinical practice and clinical trials scheduled to begin in 2028. A particular focus of the Center is the application of BNCT to deep-seated tumors, including pancreatic cancer, which has long been one of the most difficult cancers to treat. Advancing BNCT for these malignancies represents a challenge of significant international importance.
Our mission extends beyond introducing new treatment technologies. We aim to establish the scientific evidence needed to determine which patients can benefit most from BNCT, under what conditions it can be delivered safely, and how its therapeutic efficacy can be maximized. Through this research, we strive to shape the future of precision cancer therapy.
