Project Overview

Fujita Mind-BRIDGe is a research center for eradicating psychiatric and neurological disorders selected in 2025 for the Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS) as a distinctive regional core research university initiative.
Led by Fujita Health University, which has strong expertise in the field of psychiatry and neurology, the center collaborates with universities, research institutions, and industry partners to address societal challenges, advance international research development, and promote the societal implementation of research discoveries.

To establish a world-leading research center for solving psychiatric and neurological disorders and create a unique academic drug discovery ecosystem, we promote four strategic initiatives.
Through these efforts, we aim to develop therapies for psychiatric and neurological disorders—such as depression, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease—and to establish both a world-class research center and an academic drug discovery ecosystem within the next 10 years.

1. Establish a research and development ecosystem integrating data science, advanced medical science, and the humanities and social sciences

Enhancing research capacity through improving laboratories with cutting-edge equipment
Promote joint research through strengthening research networks, and advancing systemic reforms between partner universities

2. Promote Sustainable Research

Promote world-class bidirectional translational research in psychiatric and neurological disorders
Promote integrated research across psychology, education, and other interdisciplinary fields
Pursue cutting-edge integration of data science and medical science in collaboration with international organizations
Deliver next-generation healthcare by leveraging real-world data (RWD) for early intervention
Establish an academic-based drug discovery platform
Accelerate the exploration of translational research seeds through collaboration among internal university departments
Clinical application of research and exit strategies
Develop funding strategies to sustain the ecosystem

3. Foster human resources and career paths for a diverse range of individuals committed to creative and innovative research

Nurture early-career researchers and junior principal investigators (PIs)
Nurture physician-scientists who engage in clinical work while conducting research
Cultivate a new generation of data scientists
Educate and support graduate students and international students
Train and develop research technicians
Expand and foster URA support activities
Reform personnel evaluation

4. University Global Impact

Establish satellite laboratories and overseas collaboration hubs
Strengthen the recruitment of international students and foreign researchers
Establish an international advisory board
Host international symposia
