『3つのIで推進する、統合・情報・国際連携によるがん撲滅への挑戦』

腫瘍医学研究センター長を拝命しております、佐谷秀行（さや・ひでゆき）と申します。センターの運営にあたり、私たちは「3つのI」をビジョンとして掲げ、活動を進めています。

3つのI（アイ）

① Integration（統合）：藤田医科大学には、腫瘍医学研究センターに加えて先端的ながん研究を行う基礎系講座と、最新の医療を提供し多くのがん患者さんの命を救ってきた臨床各科があります。これらを有機的に結び付け、がんを撲滅するためのシステムとして統合すること（Integration）を第一の目標としています。具体的には、患者さんから得た腫瘍組織や血液などの検体を多様な手法で解析し、臨床データと統合することで、がんリスクの予測、早期診断、再発の検出、さらには最適な治療の選択・創出につなげることを目指します。

② Information（情報）：センターの重要な任務の一つは、がんに関する正しく最新の情報（Information）を、社会、患者さん、医療関係者、学生へ提供することです。正しい情報が広く共有されることで、質の高いがん医療の実現が可能になります。また近年は、情報科学（informatics）の進展により、質の高いデータを集積し、機械学習などを活用することで、創薬研究や治療選択をより迅速かつ正確に行えるようになってきました。柔軟性のある若い医師・研究者・学生がこうした新しい知識や技術を身に付け、がん研究・がん医療の現場で活躍できる体制づくりを進めています。

③ International（国際性）：がん研究・がん医療の成果は、どれだけ多くの患者さんを救えるかに尽きます。がんの撲滅に向けては、世界が一体となって協力することが不可欠です。そのためには、本学が世界のがん研究・がん医療の一翼を担う存在となるという意気込みが求められます。センターのメンバーが常に世界を意識して研究と診療に取り組める環境づくりを推進し、腫瘍医学研究センターに所属する全員のチームワークで、これらの社会的使命を果たしてまいります。何卒よろしくお願い申し上げます。

“Advancing cancer eradication through the Three I’s: integration, information, and international collaboration.”

My name is Hideyuki Saya, and I serve as Director of the Oncology Innovation Center. In leading the Center, we have adopted the “Three I’s” as our vision and are advancing our activities accordingly.

The Three I’s

1) Integration
Fujita Health University brings together three major strengths: the Oncology Innovation Center, basic science departments conducting cutting-edge cancer research, and clinical departments that provide state-of-the-art care and have saved the lives of many patients with cancer. Our first goal is to connect these strengths organically and integrate them into a unified system to eradicate cancer. Specifically, we aim to analyze patient-derived specimens, such as tumor tissues and blood, using a wide range of approaches and integrate these results with clinical data. Through this integration, we seek to improve cancer risk prediction, enable earlier diagnosis, detect recurrence, and ultimately support the selection and development of optimal therapies.

2) Information
One of the Center’s key missions is to provide accurate and up-to-date information on cancer to society, patients, healthcare professionals, and students. When reliable information is widely shared, high-quality cancer care becomes possible. In recent years, advances in informatics have also made it possible to accumulate high-quality data and use machine learning and related approaches to accelerate and improve the accuracy of drug discovery research and treatment decision-making. We are building an environment in which young physicians, researchers, and students, with their flexibility and curiosity, can acquire these new knowledge and skills and contribute actively to cancer research and clinical practice.

3) International
Ultimately, the impact of cancer research and cancer care is measured by how many patients’ lives they can save. To eradicate cancer, global cooperation is essential. This requires a strong commitment for our University to play a meaningful role in the worldwide cancer research and cancer care community. We will foster an environment in which all Center members can pursue research and clinical care with a constant global perspective, and through the teamwork of everyone affiliated with the Oncology Innovation Center, we will fulfill these responsibilities.
