Fujita Health University has worked for several years with researchers at Harvard Medical School on Parkinson’s disease, especially in relation to neuromelanin—the dark, dopamine-based pigment that accumulates in dopaminergic (DA) neurons. Our research groups share interests in understanding and addressing DA neuron vulnerability, for example through energy metabolism and lifestyle, from basic research to clinical trials. In September, researchers from Harvard Medical School will visit FHU for intensive discussions on how to move PD research forward. As part of this visit, we have organized this open symposium so that a wider audience can join the exchange, and we have invited other research colleagues to contribute their perspectives. We hope this meeting will support the further development of Parkinson’s disease research.
