Projects

Our research group investigates neurogenesis and neural regeneration in the central nervous system for behavioral therapeutics of brain disorders and conditions like spinal cord injury. To achieve this, we study the neural circuits and molecular mechanisms that support brain structures and functions. In particular, we seek to understand the brain’s intrinsic resilience, capacity for recovery, and plasticity. Our aim is to promote functional recovery through behavioral analysis, restoration of learning abilities, and novel strategies for drug discovery. Through these efforts we hope to pioneer novel therapeutic approaches and drug compounds.

Kosei Takeuchi

Kosei Takeuchi Professor

With a background in molecular and cellular biology, I conduct research on the mechanisms of neural circuit formation and spinal cord regeneration, such as the role of the extracellular environment including glycobiology. By integrating molecular, structural, and functional perspectives, and multifaceted collaborations in Japan and abroad, the laboratory aims to translate fundamental findings into novel therapies and drug discovery.

Satoko Hattori

Satoko Hattori Associate Professor

My research focuses on the behavioral analysis of neuronal and neural circuit mechanisms in mouse models of psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. In ongoing work, we will identify biological and psychological factors underlying these behavioral changes and develop these leads into fundamental insights on brain functions and novel therapeutic approaches.

Hiroyuki Sasakura

Hiroyuki Sasakura Researcher

I investigate the mechanisms of functional recovery from neurological disorders such as spinal cord injury using synthetic synaptic organizing molecules and modulation of the regenerative environment. Maximizing the inherent repair capacity of the central nervous system, and uncovering the molecular mechanisms, I aim to create innovative therapeutic strategies.
