分野紹介

我が国では急速に進む少子高齢化に加え、医学技術の進歩による高度化やニーズの増大によって医療費が年ごとに増加しており、国民の負担軽減のためにどう対処するかが重大な課題となっています。そのような現状の中で「先制医療」の実現が期待されています。
先制医療とは、病気が発症するよりも早期（以下、不健康とする）に高い精度で発症予測・診断を行い、発症前に治療的介入を実施することによって疾病を予防する、あるいは発症を遅らせるという、究極の個の医療であり新しい医療のパラダイムシフトです。すなわち、皆さんが病気にならないうちに新しい診断技術を用いて、個人の不健康度を診断（先制診断）し、何らかの手段（先制攻撃）を講じることで病気にならないようにしようという夢のような概念です。
先進診断システム開発分野は、この先制医療を実現すべく、がんなどの生活習慣病や、ストレスによるうつ病などの精神疾患に対する診断薬開発を行います。そのほかに、近年ではがんやリウマチなどの自己免疫疾患に著効を呈する、根治も夢ではない薬がたくさん開発されていますが、薬価が非常に高く、治療コストが１人あたり数千万円になることもあります。しかし、薬は残念ながら服用した全員に効果があるとは限りません。そこで、我々は、このような薬に対して、薬剤投与前に薬効・副作用の予測を可能とする診断技術の開発を産学連携により行います。
